I have never met or interviewed either Mr. Anderson or Mr. Kanlica, yet from the news reports and one interview with an attorney, and anecdotal evidence as it relates to “Locksmith Scammers” which I’ve been fighting for more than 10 years now several truths seem self evident: 1. When 25yr old student and photographer Garrett Anderson went shopping at WalMart, the furthest thing from his mind was “evil” or “wrongful intent”. 2. When Tansu Kanlica was dispatched to WalMart to open Mr. Anderson’s vehicle, it is much more likely than not that the criminal enterprise who sent him had indoctrinated Kanlica with their version of bait and switch and that he did in fact have an evil and wrongful intent when he went to WalMart to victimize Mr. Anderson. 3. Anecdotally it has been learned that part of the M.O. of the criminal locksmith scammers includes intimidating victims to extract cash from ATMs or bank tellers, and to act in a manner consistent with “SCARY”. 4. Mr. Anderson made a poor choice when he went speeding away rather than simply summoning law enforcement to deal with a consumer fraud situation, however, if he had been intimidated as in #3 above, he may have been in fear of injury or death causing him to act in a manner abnormal for him. I am truly saddened at the untimely loss of Miss Al-Salaam and Miss Ferrell and my condolences and prayers go to their families and to Miss Epps who was injured as well and this letter is in no way intended to minimize their losses, indeed the opposite – a major intent of this letter is to encourage you to direct GBI and Georgia’s Attorney General to re-interview Kanlica, identify the criminal organization for whom he worked and investigate that organization with the intent of charging them as accessories to the vehicular manslaughter of Miss Al-Salaam and Miss Ferrell and the injuries to Miss Epps under the felony murder rule. Having said that, Mr. Anderson was a victim of a (likely large – read RICO) criminal enterprise, and but for that criminal enterprise victimizing him, this whole tragic affair would have never happened. Thus I would ask and, if need be, BEG YOU, Governor Deal, to exercise your powers of Executive Clemency to either: (A) GRANT A FULL AND COMPLETE PARDON to Garrett Kyle Anderson and restore his civil rights completely, OR (B) COMMUTE Garrett Kyle Anderson’s sentence to time served and let him get back to being a productive member of society. Surely serving 2+ years in prison must be punishment enough for the “high crime” of locking one’s keys into their vehicle, being victimized by a criminal organization, and fleeing a criminal actor. Please consider, this could have been you, or me, or one of our children, or grand children…… It was NOT Mr. Anderson’s vehicle that went out of control causing injury and death; While traveling to WalMart that night in 2015, the EVIL CRIMINAL INTENT was predominant in Mr. Kanlica’s mind while 100% absent from Garrett Kyle Anderson’s mind. Fines and imprisonment are for those people with evil intent, not for gainfully employed photographers trying to better themselves by continuing their education who just happen to have an “oops – locked the keys in the car” moment while going shopping at a WalMart store who then trys to evade the criminal sent to victimize them.
